5 Personal Finance Web Sites You Should See

61

By Richard Stephen

It was Richard Cecil, the English clergyman, that said "The first step towards knowledge is to know that we are ignorant". This is true in every part of our lives but ever so true when it comes to personal finance.

I guess it is part of human nature, at least male nature, not to ask for help or admit we know not how to do something. Like the lost husband who drives miles out of his way saying "I think this is starting to look familiar". All the while, his poor wife is begging him to pull over to ask directions. For many, it is the same with personal finance. We don't know how to get were we want so we just keep going the same direction. We are too embarrassed to admit we don't know what to do. So we keep doing the same thing, making the mistakes and getting into a deeper financial hole.

Unfortunately, when it comes to finances time can be your best friend and your worst enemy. If you are making wise financial decisions, compound interest over time can make you wealthy. If your decisions are unwise, time becomes your enemy, putting you further in debt and ruining your chances for a comfortable retirement. As Cecil said, our first step must be that we know (or admit) we are ignorant.

In today's information age, there is no excuse for not growing in financial knowledge. There is a plethora of websites, books, television programs and courses that offer to show us the way.  Many of them in plain language without all the high-finance, high-confusion language.   Sure it will take a little humility, effort and common sense to pick the fruit from the weeds but that is a small price to pay for financial peace and security.

What follows is a list of 5 personal finance web sites that I have found beneficial for myself and my family. These are 5 sites that I visit frequently and have no reservations in recommending to you. Please take the time to visit each site and peruse the content. I'm sure you will learn a few new things about personal finance.
